A 40-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday afternoon after getting his arm caught in machinery at a business near Limoneira property on the east side of Santa Paula.

A Santa Paula Fire Department spokesman said the incident was reported about 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Padre Drive—just east of Hallock Drive—and East Telegraph Road, property commonly known as East Area 1.

According to SPFD PIO Andy VanSciver, “Fire Dispatch received the 911 call reporting an industrial accident with a victim’s arm trapped in machinery.”

Santa Paula Fire Engine 81 responded to the scene along with an ambulance and paramedics.

Once the man was cleared from the machinery he was immediately flown to Ventura County Medical Center’s Trauma Unit with a critical injury.

VanSciver said Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit Air Squad 8 helicopter “Was able to land about 75 feet from the engine and ambulance, ensuring a quick hand-off to the flight medic and copter crew,” for the injured man’s flight to VCMC.

VanSciver noted that Ventura County Fire Department Engine 121 handled the landing zone for the helicopter.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Cal OSHA (the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration) will investigate the incident.
