Aurelio “Shorty” Lopez

Aurelio Lopez passed away in his Santa Paula home on May 2, 2015 at the age of 97. Aurelio was born at Limoneira Ranch on November 12, 1917. Later he and his parents moved from Limoneira to downtown Santa Paula where they opened their first grocery store. He attended local schools and graduated from Santa Paula High School Class of 1940. He was drafted into the service where he served in the Army from 1942-1945. After his time in the service he kept up his father’s grocery store on Santa Barbara Street.

You would always see him walking down Main Street where he made many friends. Starting with Jess Victoria, who owned the local shoe store, to Sammy Salas from El Brillante Market. He and his family were well known throughout Santa Paula.

Aurelio was survived by his siblings Simon, Stella, Alice, and Albert Lopez, and his many nieces and nephews. Aurelio was proceeded in death by his parents Faustino and Tranquelina Lopez, brothers Jose, Selso, Robert, and Francisco Lopez, and sister Lydia Torres.

Special thanks to Rose Room Hospice, caregiver Mayta Abda, the VA of Oxnard, and to all our friends and family for all their love and support during this difficult time.

A mass of Christian Buriel will be held Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10am at our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 427 N. Oak St, Santa Paula, CA  93060 with Father Charles Lueras C.R.I.C. officiating.
