Sadie Foster, the daughter of Tom and Joanne Foster, was a part of the Cal State Chico Model United Nations delegation at the UN in New York City recently.

For the eighth time in nine years, Cal State Chico received the Outstanding Delegation award at the National Model UN conference. This award is the conference’s highest honor and places the University in the top 10 percent of participating schools.

This was Foster’s third conference. She is a 2010 graduate of Santa Paula High School. She won an Outstanding Position Paper award serving as the delegate from the Russian Federation on the Economic and Social Council at the Northwest Model UN competition in November 2013 and represented Malaysia in the World Health Organization at the Model UN Conference in New York in April of last year.

The team of 33 students, representing the U.S., served on 16 committees, which discussed a range of topics including biological weapons, the situation in Iraq, transitional organized crime and drug trafficking.

Foster and her partner Sam Perkins represented the U.S. on the Food and Agricultural Organization. That committee discussed Reducing Rural Poverty and investing in Agriculture for Food Security and Economic Growth. Foster and Perkins won an Outstanding Position Paper award, something earned by only 10 percent of the committee.

Foster is graduating this month from Chico State with a bachelor’s degree in International Economics and International Relations (with distinction).
