Adrian “Boby” F. Wellman, 84, passed away peaceably on Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2015 at home surrounded by many of her family. She was born on Dec 31, 1930 in

Ridgway, Colorado to Winniford Lyle McKean O’Connor and Frank Charles O’Connor.

Adrian grew up in Ridgway, Colorado and attended Ridgway School. The O’Connor’s moved to Santa Rosa and she attended school in Santa Rosa, California until her senior year and she attended her senior year at Alhambra High School in Temple City, California and graduated in 1947. She went on to business school and was a bank teller at the local bank.

Adrian married LeRoy “Gene” Wellman January 16, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Temple City and moved to Santa Paula, California. Together they opened a dry cleaners in Fillmore and after it was sold, Adrian became a dispatcher for the Santa Paula Police and Fire Department for 23 years. She was the last to be a sworn-in officer and served as a matron for the jail as well. Boby had been married to Gene for 41 years. Adrian thought of herself as a most loving and hardworking mother. Her personal hobbies began as sewing for her family and also knitting and crochet. After her retirement in 1991, she painted and became a stained glass artist. Among her many other interests were pine needle basketry, professional antique chair caning restoration, and of course, her love of gardening. She enjoyed raising Fan-tailed Pigeons, Ring-neck Doves, and looking after the beautiful fish in her 100 year old pond. Adrian also loved traveling. Her home was the site of many social gatherings at her home and she was always an expert cook providing for all. Adrian was a resident of Santa Paula for over 62 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Wellman in 1990 and her parents Winniford and Frank O’Connor of China Lake, California. She leaves her four children Susan Lazenby of Santa Paula, Lori Brown of Santa Paula, Scott Wellman of Toll House, California and Brad Wellman of Bakersfield, California. And, her 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters: Dan and Barbara O’Connor, Terry and Ilene O’Connor, Frank and Ruth O’Connor, and numerous nieces and nephews that she adored. We all feel a great sadness by her passing and look forward to our reunion in heaven.

A private burial ceremony will be held at Santa Paula Pierce Brothers Cemetery.
