Troop Real Estate celebrates East Main
Street opening with Mixer, ribbon-cutting
Published:  May 01, 2015

It was a joyous gathering when Troop Real Estate celebrated the opening of their own dream property — new offices at the corner of East Main and 8th streets — with a gala Chamber of Commerce Mixer.

The April 22 celebration drew more than 200 people to the newly renovated office building, the former longtime home of Cal West Real Estate.

Branch Manager Scott “The Land Man” Dunbar was welcoming guests that included Troop CEO Brian Troop, Supervisor Kathy Long, Councilwomen Jenny Crosswhite and Ginger Gherardi and Councilman Jim Tovias who would take part in the ribbon-cutting with Troop staff.

In the interim tours of the recently renovated building were led by Patty Harrison, Cynthia Dunbar, Sally Caulfield and Judy Ohaco, among others.

No matter who was leading the tour there was a special stop at the first private office, a plaque above the door honoring the late Realtor and Cal West co-owner Jim Garfield.

“Scott said he wouldn’t feel comfortable being in Jim’s office,” said Dunbar of her husband, so it was turned into a conference room so “Everyone can enjoy it!” and remember the jokes Garfield was famed for.

The celebration featured a taco bar, beer and wine as well as door prizes, a celebration that Scott Dunbar said everyone skimped to provide.

“We kept our budget down some to do this,” he noted, “but Troop agents rock! I’m really blessed!”

The move was necessitated by the upswing in business and expansion of Troop, now with 15 full-time professionals serving Santa Paula, Fillmore and surrounding areas. The transfer into the building allows for private conferences in the Jim Garfield Conference Room and a more productive work environment.

And, said Dunbar, “We are definitely pleased with our new location in downtown Santa Paula. We look forward to being a part of the positive energy that’s been building here for the past several years.”

Troop said he basked in Dunbar’s excitement noting, “Eleven years ago we opened our first branch in Santa Paula…Scott loves Santa Paula and one thing about Troop is we’re all about the community!”

The opportunity to move into the building came about a year ago: “Scott said it’s got potential, which means it needs a lot of work!” but Troop said the result was well worth the effort and expense.

Building owner Laura Staben said she was thrilled to have Troop’s Santa Paula branch for a tenant as well as the community support evident at the Mixer and ribbon-cutting.

“Brian, Scott and Cynthia did a fantastic job of remodeling the interior,” noted Staben, “I have really good feelings about this office being successful.”

“We love being here on Main Street,” where said Dunbar, “It all happens!”
