VCSD: Three Santa Paula residents
injured in Fillmore head-on collision

Three Santa Paulans were injured Friday in a head-on traffic collision that occurred in Fillmore that trapped one victim that had to be extricated, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. 

The February 13 - Friday the 13th - crash was reported about 5:38 p.m. at the intersection of Ventura (Highway 126 where it runs through the city) and “C” streets.

According to VCSD Sgt. David Sparks, Fillmore Deputies were dispatched to an injury accident; upon arrival at the scene they found the accident included two vehicles, a Ford F250 pickup and a Chrysler PT Cruiser. 

Sparks said the driver of the Ford Pickup, Robert Gamble, age unknown of Santa Maria, was traveling westbound on Ventura Street and the driver of the PT Cruiser, Harrison Terry, 75 of Santa Paula, was traveling eastbound preparing to make a left turn onto “C” Street. 

“As the two vehicles entered the intersection,” noted Sparks release, “they collided head on.”

Gamble’s truck continued westbound and slammed into the traffic control light pole on the corner, “taking the pole down... “

Terry and his two unidentified passengers, Santa Paula residents listed as 81 and 58 years old, were treated on scene before they were transported to Ventura County Medical Center.

Their injuries ranged from minor to severe; Gamble was uninjured.

Due to the significant injuries to those involved in the crash VCSD Traffic Investigator Sr. Deputy John Popp was called to the scene. 

Sparks noted the Fillmore Fire Department and Ventura County Fire Department responded to the crash. 

Caltrans crews also responded to help repair a second traffic signal that lost power when one of the vehicles hit it.
