Grace Thille Elementary School hosted The Discovery Center for Science and Technology’s Family Science Night last Thursday. The event was open to children and parents to explore science together as a family. Some of the things available to explore included: levitating ping pong balls, discovering hidden worlds, shooting a magnetic cannon, painting with acids and bases and socializing with an earthworm.

Students from Santa Paula High School were on hand to help explain the various experiments. The Discovery Center for Science and Technology is an educational nonprofit organization that provides hands-on science programs at schools and local community venues. They currently operate as a Museum Without Walls  serving residents in and around the Conejo Valley and Ventura County with outreach to outlying areas in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties.  Their website states: “Our programs promote curiosity, creativity and critical thinking by providing interactive experiences and education programs focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Discovery Center’s programs and activities help people of all ages to think critically and understand more about themselves and their world.” The Discovery Center states that research shows that student test scores and enjoyment of learning dramatically increases with parent participation.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Photo by Brian D.
