A woman who returned to her home in the Oaks shortly before noon Friday discovered a burglar who took off but was soon arrested by Santa Paula Police.

According to SPPD Sgt. Cody Madison, the incident occurred November 14.

Madison said a woman called police at about 11:30 a.m. “to report she had arrived home,” in the 1400 block of Magnolia Street, “and discovered the suspect inside burglarizing her home... “

The suspect, Juan Duran, 31 of Santa Paula, “immediately fled into the riverbed located just east of the residence,” and officers responded to the area and set up a containment area to trap the suspect.

Officers found Duran “hiding in the riverbed with the victim’s property,” and Madison said he was arrested without further incident.

The female victim positively identified Duran as the intruder who had been inside her home and the stolen property taken was returned to the victim; Duran was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

The woman victim was not injured.

Madison said a records check revealed Duran also had an outstanding felony warrant for failing to appear in court for possession of methampheta ine charge.

Duran was later transported to Ventura County Main Jail and booked on a charge related to the incident including suspicion of burglary.

The SPPD said if you ever arrive home and find an intruder inside your residence leave immediately and call police at 911.
