They’re more than just trees but rather a holiday’s worth of gift-giving for the lucky winners of decorated faux pines that will be raffled off Saturday at the 3rd Annual Light Up the Season!

The unique event will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Clara Valley; tickets, which include a luncheon catered by Enzo’s Italian Restaurant, are only $25 each. Light Up the Season will be held at the Community Center, 230 W. Main St. starting at 11 a.m. Raffle tickets are only $1 each.

According to Jenae Quintana of the “Positive Place for Kids” this year there will be even more trees to be raffled off including a “Frozen” tree based on the hit Disney film sponsored by the Santa Paula Unified School District, Deck the Cars sponsored by - who else? - Santa Paula Chevrolet, a tasty Margarita Ville concoction courtesy of PROS Incorporated and a sweet Baby’s First Christmas sponsored by PERC Water.

In all there will be 25 trees packed full of surprises, most with even more gifts under the branches and many worth way more than the $250 minimum value.

It’s a lot of fun and prizes are packed onto and under the 4-foot tall faux Christmas trees, which winners can also take home... or, if they prefer, raffle winners can undress the tree and leave it for next year’s Light Up the Season!

But first there will be entertainment with ventriloquist Christine Barger as well as the Isbell Middle School Condor Choir, under the direction of Donna Nelson.

Union Bank, Do Right’s Plant Growers, Santa Paula Times and DSR Audio, LLC have also sponsored the fundraiser which in just a few years has become one of the community’s most popular events.

“We will also be selling jingle bell necklaces and note cards designed by our club members, something,” said Jenae, “new and fun!”

Also fun will be the new lineup of spectacular trees that will dazzle with beauty, whimsy and plenty of bling, each playing off a theme for the decorations and the gifts under the branches.

“Becci Orlando goes out of her way every year for this event,” that Club Executive Director Jan Marholin said was suggested by Orlando, who also dresses trees for sponsors who would rather someone else take care of the theme selecting, gift buying and decorating.

“Becci has exquisite taste and it shows in each tree she creates... and our other tree sponsors that prefer to do their own really get into the spirit of the holidays and go all out in decorating their trees.

“With all those wonderful trees sparkling with light and goodies, well, it really is a wonderland,” said Marholin.

Several guests who have won trees in the past said they use some of the goodies as holiday presents so the raffle is not only fun but also a potential money saver that also saves on shopping time.

Said Marholin, “No matter the theme each tree is unique, valuable and bursting with wonderful things.... people really like this event for three different reasons - it’s a really festive way to kick off the holiday season, it’s happy, different, and multi-generational. We have mothers there with their daughters and granddaughters... it’s one event we sponsor that caters to all age levels where everybody has a great time.

“And,” said Marholin, “at the same time we’re doing this we’re helping our club kids!”
