Plein Air and partial Plein Air works by members of the group will be featured on the “Shively Memorial Wall” to December 27. _

This selection of works will include drawings and paintings by artists Pam Shelley and Dorothy Orr of Santa Paula; Nancy Beswick, Lois Bloom, Susan Lewis, Laurie McKnett and Dani Willis of Ventura; and Melanie Hirdler and Cathy Smith of Ojai. 

The exhibit, entitled “Celebrations” is intended to honor Plein Air painting opportunities and experiences of the recent past. 

According to Orr, an acclaimed painter and retired Ventura College fine arts professor and instructor, art works categorized as plein air, “Are started and finished on location using natural light only. The artist must deal with all of the gifts and surprises that nature has to offer at that time and place.”

The artists “appreciate subtle changes due to seasons, weather, and the passage of time allowing them to revisit locations,” and, in some instances, Orr said they find, “Landscapes have been dramatically transformed due to extreme weather conditions or building construction. Other favorite locations may no longer be accessible to the artists.”

Orr noted the art works included in “Celebrations” are “Full of memories of experiences, people, locations and inspirations that are simply no longer available.”

The new exhibit at Blanchard Community Library is just the latest staged by PAAINT since it was founded in 2012.  _

Blanchard Community Library is located at 119 N. 8th St.

Regular hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Friday and holidays.
