Ed Mount of the Recreation Department told the City Council at a recent meeting that THE festival is a fundraiser for the Senior Center, located at the Community Center.

Tickets are only $45 each for the festival, which will feature the acclaimed Mariachi Hermanos Cardenas; there will be a catered dinner plus dessert to round out the evening’s enjoyment. The festival will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. 

Mount said all proceeds from the Mariachi Festival will benefit Senior Center activities and services for Santa Paula seniors.

“The Senior Center offers activities such as exercise, arts and crafts, referrals for services, special programs, monthly special events and trips such as to the Getty Museum, Grey Law and our daily lunch program,” that offers seniors not only a nutritious meal but a chance for socialization through the lively company of other seniors.

And there’s not much more lively than Mariachi music, which traditionally was played only in Mexico but now is featured at mega-concerts throughout the United States and has been performed at the White House. 

Mount said the fundraiser “Will help keep our programs, activities and referrals going... it should be a lot of fun.”

Vice Mayor Jim Tovias said he is a fan: “I saw a program out of Texas, a huge mariachi competition... it was very impressive,” and an event he would like to see get started in Santa Paula.
