In less than three weeks area gang member Jacob Escobedo was shot, arrested by Ventura Police and, according to Santa Paula Police, arrested again Saturday by local police.

According to the SPPD, Escobedo, who has a history of standoffs with officers when faced with arrest, was taken into custody October 11 without incident.

He was transported to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on two outstanding felony warrants related to violating the terms of prior releases.

Warrants were issued for Escobedo, who is under Post Release Offender Supervision (PROS), in two cases: he pleaded guilty to a September 2010 child endangerment charge and was convicted of resisting police stemming from a barricade incident. The six-hour standoff occurred at an area mobile home park when Escobedo was being sought as a “person of interest” in a homicide; there were several people and four children inside the mobile home when Escobedo initially refused to come out, but all had exited by the time he gave up.

At that time, Escobedo already had been convicted a dozen times in Ventura Superior Court on charges starting in 2004; in separate cases Escobedo was convicted of felony grand theft and possession of a deadly weapon to felony forgery and resisting an officer among others.

Escobedo’s nine misdemeanor convictions were mostly related to drugs but one of the non-drug-related convictions was for making terrorist threats.

In June 2014, Escobedo was arrested by the SPPD after a standoff - his third - for suspicion of being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a police officer. The arrest stemmed from a felony warrant issued for Escobedo stemming from violating the terms of his parole for the 2010 incident.

On October 3 Ventura Police arrested Escobedo in the 1200 block of Prairie Lane, where just a week earlier VPD had responded to a report of gunshots and upon arrival found evidence of a shooting. Shortly thereafter they were notified that Escobedo was at St. John’s Medical Center in Oxnard where he underwent surgery for an unspecified wound.

Escobedo underwent surgery for his injury and left the hospital on an unknown date.

Police had been searching for Escobedo, who was now wanted for violating his post-release offender status.

After about a 40-minute standoff Escobedo was arrested by Ventura Police on a felony warrant and on suspicion of obstructing a police officer. A search of the home was conducted but a gun was not located.

Escobedo was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for undisclosed treatment of his previous gunshot wound and once medically cleared was taken to county jail and booked on a no bail felony warrant.

He was then again released from county jail.

Santa Paula Police obtained a warrant for Escobedo and after his arrest Saturday he was lodged in Ventura County Jail with bail set at $60,000.
