You’ll get your scream, shriek and screech going at Friday’s premiere of the Hallock House of Horrors, where being terrified has never been so much fun!

Sponsored by the Santa Paula Rotary Club, Hallock House of Horrors Chairman Carlos Juarez is promising fun, fright nights aimed at teens and adults but not recommended for younger children.

The Hallock House of Horrors will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18-19 and October 24-25-26. Hours will be 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturdays and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are only $10 each, a reasonable cost for those that hope to get a good scare and/or a good laugh.

Rotarians and other volunteers have been scaring up meetings and excursions to come up with ideas, props, sound effects and other plans to transform the former dealership, which offers plenty of room for unforgettable thrills and chills - and the perfect acoustics for unrestrained screaming - into a House of Horrors.

Juarez said they have transformed the former car dealership on South Hallock Drive off of Highway 126 into a temple of terror: “It will be scary and have many rooms and props covering numerous things that people are afraid of,” including, said Juarez, “Things that go bump in the night and jump out at you when you least expect it!”

Optimist Club members are among those other groups and volunteers who have worked hard on sets, stories and characters for the night of terror.

Student actors, Juarez noted, “Are looking forward to entertaining and scaring our guests,” until they are shrieking with delight.

Something far from scary is the support of ARP (Automotive Racing Products) and its Hozy’s Grill, which owns the large dealership that offers a structure with plenty of offices and alcoves that will add to the scare factor by providing more terrifying twists and tortuous turns for guests.

“They allowed us to put together something a little different and challenging,” but the outcome is a secret until the first tour Friday at 5 p.m.

Refreshments will be available for purchase and there will be a mini-Pumpkin Patch with some Halloween items for sale.

It was the demise of the Faulkner Farm Pumpkin Patch that actually led to the Hallock House of Horrors.

The patch was formerly the Rotary Club’s main annual fundraiser, providing about $100,000 annually that the club donated to other community nonprofits.

The Pumpkin Patch was cancelled this year after a dispute with the UC Hansen Agricultural Research and Extension Center, owners of Faulkner Farm. The patch had been staged for generations by a previous owner and was operated by the Rotary Club for seven years after the university requested it to revive the event.

But now for the Rotary its on to horror of a different kind: “People, especially teenagers, love haunted houses,” and Juarez said, “we’ll give them a real supernatural experience at our Hallock House of Horror... and raise money for the community at the same time. We promise a ghoulishly good time will be had by all!”
