A Santa Paula man that was the focus of a multi-agency investigation was arrested Thursday on suspicion of possessing heroin for sale.

According to a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department spokesman, in August narcotics detectives received information that Joseph Paz, 40, was selling narcotics from his apartment in the 300 block of South Steckel Drive.

On September 25 detectives from the VCSD Narcotics Bureau, Santa Paula Police Department and Oxnard Police Department conducted surveillance of Paz.

When detectives stopped Paz in the City of Ventura he was found to be in possession of 37 bindles - packaging for small amounts of powdered narcotics - of heroin. The estimated street value of the heroin allegedly found in Paz’s possession was $740.

Paz was arrested for suspicion of possession of heroin for sale.

Detectives served a search warrant at Paz’s residence but no additional narcotics were discovered.

Paz was transported to Ventura County Jail and booked; his bail was set at $50,000.

Working the investigation was the West County Street Team, made up of VCSD and Santa Paula Police Department narcotics detectives working cooperatively in the investigation of narcotics offenses occurring in the western portion of Ventura County.

Members of the public are urged to report suspected drug activity, often indicated by heavy foot traffic at a location.
