Phyllis Jean Maxfield

Phyllis Jean Maxfield, 88, of Santa Paula passed away on August 17, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on January 2, 1926 to Frank and Bernice Bloomfield.

Phyllis was raised in Redlands and graduated from Redlands high school.  She began work as a clerk at JC Penny and then worked as a butcher.  Her primary and most loved occupation was being a housewife raising three fabulous children.

Phyllis married her first and only love, Tom Maxfield, on July 8th, 1944, right before Tom went off to serve in the US Navy during World War II.  Phyllis and Tom just recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary.

To know Phyllis was to know that her greatest love was her family.  Phyllis will be remembered for her quick wit, endearing smile, delightful sense of humor, green thumb, and canned Tuna.

She was a Den Leader for Cub Scouts during the 1950’s and a member of the Upland Methodist church.  Phyllis volunteered many hours at the Cancer Society Thrift Shop in Upland and was a member of the Orchid Society in Santa Paula. In addition, she served on the Hillview Community Board and was responsible for organizing the community library.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Maxfield; daughter, Sandy Thompson (Steve) of Santa Paula; son, Mike Maxfield (Deedy), of Hesperia and son, Dan Maxfield (Diane) of Madera. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The family is very grateful to the staff at Community Memorial Hospital and Hospice for the excellent care given during her brief illness.  Thanks also go to Skillen-Carroll Mortuary in Santa Paula for their assistance.

In lieu of flowers, etc., the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, The Ventura Boy Scout Council, or a charity of your choice.
