Friday’s Cruise Nite will kick off a weekend of fun when visitors will be cruisin’ to the Cruise Knights band, enjoy the Ready Santa Paula emergency preparedness event and then a special concert at the Agriculture Museum.

Sunday will feature the First Sunday of the Month Open House at Santa Paula Airport including tours of the Aviation Museum Chain of Hangars.

Cruise Nite will be held on East Main Street between 7th and 10th streets; so popular is the monthly display that more pre-1975 cars also spill onto various adjacent side streets.

Cruise Nite offers a free night out on the town with great music, unique shopping and plenty of fine dining with many restaurants offering Cruise Nite specials. Each month a new Cruise Nite T-shirt featuring a regularly displayed car and designed by Wendell Dowling is offered for sale.

Cruise Nite offers an array of pre-1975 vehicles that stretch for blocks where admirers can enjoy the show - and plenty of socializing - from about 5 p.m. to dusk.

Each September Cruise Nite - sponsored by the Santa Paula Police Officers Association and Chamber of Commerce - shares space with the annual Ready Santa Paula Emergency Preparedness Display.

According to Steve Lazenby, chairman of Santa Paula Citizens Corp, which sponsors the Ready Santa Paula event, this year there will be thrilling demonstrations.

“Members of the Santa Paula Department will do a heavy rescue extrication,” and cut up a car right there on Main Street to show how the Jaws of Life work.

In addition, Lazenby said the SPFD is also conducting a Sidewalk CPR training course, which only takes a few minutes to learn the hands only method of cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Cruise Nite runs from about 5 p.m. to dusk.

Just a short block north of Main Street is the Agriculture Museum of Ventura County where from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Delfinos will play rockin’ rhythm and blues.

The ConFusion Catering food truck will be parked outside, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. offering Sushi Roll Tacos, and delicious combinations of other great things to eat that can be brought into the air-conditioned museum - located at 926 Railroad Ave. - to enjoy the performance by.

Admission is $10 general public; $2 child with adult; $5 museum member.

Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the First Sunday Open House at Santa Paula Airport!

The Chain of Hangars will offer numerous exhibits as well as a detailed history of the airport’s creation, the latter now the focus of the museum’s first permanent building, located at the airport’s entrance.

The Airport Tram is also available for visitors who would rather ride in style.

The museum is open to the public the First Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. First Sundays can also feature car clubs and other displays.

For kids age 8 - 17, the Young Eagles EAA Chapter 723 program offers free plane rides; for more information and to schedule a reservation contact Neil Fowler at (805) 647-6994.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by The Museum’s Gift Shop located in Hangar Number Six to receive a map of the hangars and view local artifacts. The shop also sells T-shirts, hats, aviation related items; all proceeds go to the Museum.
