The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians is the Chief Sponsor for two big events in Santa Paula, donating $10,000 to the Santa Paula Police and Fire Foundation (SPP&FF) Moonlight at the Ranch VIII fundraiser and another $10,000 to the Santa Paula Fire Fighter’s Association (SPFFA) 6th Annual Golf Tournament and BBQ.

The Band of Chumash has been a loyal supporter of Moonlight at the Ranch, holding the title of Chief Sponsor since 2009 with donations totaling more than $60,000 in support of the SPP&FF’s mission to raise funds for the City of Santa Paula Police and Fire Departments for needed equipment, programs and services. This year’s Moonlight at the Ranch VIII is scheduled for September 20 at the Historic Limoneira Ranch, and it promises to be another grand celebration. This countywide premier event helps to fund such public-safety programs as the city’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and Sidewalk CPR, as well as critical safety equipment for the Police and Fire Departments, such as radio communications, ballistic shields to protect our officers and lighting for scene safety.

The Band of Chumash has also supported the SPFFA Golf Tournament and BBQ with more than $60,000 over the past six years. This year’s tournament takes place on Saturday, October 25, at the Mountain View Golf Course in Santa Paula, and sponsorships and foursomes are still available. Check in will be at 11 a.m., with shotgun start at noon and a BBQ dinner at 5:30. This event raises funds to enhance the lives of Santa Paula’s youth by helping to support community youth programs, such as youth sports teams, 4H, and the Boys and Girls Club. The association also supports initiatives such as swimming lessons by keeping the pool open for extended periods so kids can learn to swim for free, Burn Relay, Relay for Life, Fire Explorers, and the Isbell eighth-grade Washington, D.C. trip, among other programs.

“We are fortunate to be the recipients of the Band of Chumash’s generosity over the years,” said Fire Chief Rick Araiza. “They are an important part of our ability to protect the public by helping to fund critical safety equipment and to sustain our community outreach and youth programs.”

These community-support activities and programs are possible because of the generous sponsorships and donations from those who attend the events. These fundraisers also get the community together to have fun for a common cause-to make life better for all residents.
