 “A Country Fair with Ocean Air” theme is illustrated by county youth

Ventura County children in Grades 5 through 12 competed in the fifth Ventura County Fair Poster Contest with entries that illustrated the Fair’s 2014 Theme: “A Country Fair with Ocean Air”. Of 57 entries, three were chosen by a panel of judges as the winners of the 2014 Ventura County Fair poster Contest.

 First Prize went to Channy Heng (16) of Ventura for her stylized illustration of a silhouetted horseback rider, filled with a detailed illustration of the Ventura County Fair’s carnival midway. The work is rendered with amazing detail, colored beautifully in mixed medium. Channy currently attends Ventura High School and enjoys entering her art in festivals and auctions.

 Second place was won by Jack Wulf (15) of Oak Park for his vivid illustration of the fairgrounds in a style that is unique and skillfully colored. Visions of the Fair’s theme can be seen as your eyes are drawn into the people, places and Fair things in this mesmerizing illustration, done in mixed medium. Jack is entering 10th grade at Oak Park High School and enjoys running cross country, long boarding, listening to music, and hanging out with his friends in his free time.

 Third place was awarded to Marietta Collins (16) of Santa Paula for her beautiful depiction of the Ventura County Fair. Featuring a seagull with the Pacific Ocean shown in the background, the “Country Fair with Ocean Air” theme is beautifully rendered. She uses mixed medium to depict this scene. Marietta attends St. Augustine Academy, and enjoys enjoys volleyball, cross country and tennis in addition to art. 

“Congratulations to the talented winners of this year’s contest,” said Barbara Quaid, Fair CEO, adding “every artist who entered can be very proud of your uniquely crafted contributions to our community. You have told us many personal Fair stories, each in your own talented way. We thank every child who participated and encourage all children to continue creating and making art to share with us at the annual Ventura County Fair.”

 Cash Prizes are being awarded to the 3 winners and their artwork will be used to promote the 2014 Ventura County Fair. All contestants receive a prize and are invited to ride with the Junior Fair Board on a float in the 2014 Ventura County Fair Parade on Saturday, August 2nd. All contest entries will be displayed in the Youth Expo at the Ventura County Fair, July 30-August 10.
