There will be a Fireworks Spectacular at Harding Park Friday evening to celebrate Independence Day starting at 9 p.m., but don’t worry about where you’ll watch it from...  chances are the flashing, booming, sizzling air show of pyrotechnics will be visible from your very own home.

Cruise Nite, normally held on the First Friday of the Month, won’t be held July 4 but if you have a craving for unique cars there will be a car show in Fillmore. Cruise Nite will return August 1st.

Santa Paula’s July 4th 238th birthday celebration for the United States of America is again sponsored by the Santa Paula Fireworks Committee, City of Santa Paula and generous community supporters who have sent donations or just dropped spare change into cans on merchant counters throughout town.

“Santa Paula Fireworks have become an annual tradition,” said Ginger Gherardi, Chair of Santa Paula’s Fireworks Committee. “We’re celebrating several important things by producing the fireworks. First of all, 4th of July fireworks is a symbol of our country’s great ideals. Additionally, Santa Paula was founded by pioneers with a ‘can do’ spirit,” still demonstrated by those “Santa Paulans who roll up their sleeves in a time honored tradition to contribute for the fireworks.”

Committee Co-Chair Al Guilin noted that since the fireworks lost city funding, “For the last several years our community has come together and gathered the necessary funds to insure that a proper celebration was held in Santa Paula.

“We raised the needed $15,000 last year and were able to provide a spectacular Fireworks Show for all to enjoy... this, along with what the fireworks represent to our national heritage, is a great teaching moment for our kids.”

There will be plenty of fireworks for the whole family to enjoy, either from several prime-viewing areas or from residents porches and front yards.

In some areas viewers can even catch glimpses of the Fillmore Fireworks display to the east.

In recent years the Santa Paula display has become one of the best in the county with a light show that builds to a crescendo of “bombs bursting in air” that signify the fight for Independence from England.

We’ve all made up and America continues to be the Land of the Free - and that includes Friday’s free July 4th Fireworks Spectacular, the candles on the Independence cake courtesy of the Santa Paula Fireworks Committee, City of Santa Paula and the community!
