Two people, both passengers in SUVs, received minor injuries in a collision that occurred Wednesday in front of the Calavo complex on West Main Street.

Santa Paula Police Sgt. Jeremy Watson, the SPPD Traffic Investigator, said the June 25 collision occurred at about 1:09 p.m.

“Officers responded to the area of Main Street and Lucada regarding an injury traffic collision,” and upon arrival found two vehicles were involved.

Watson said Michael Castaneda, 60, of Santa Paula, “was driving his green 1998 Chevy Tahoe west on Main Street when a gold 2004 Ford Explorer,” driven by 28-year-old Janae Carillo, pulled out from the parking lot of Calavo.

Carillo drove into the path of Castaneda’s vehicle, and the front of his Tahoe collided with the left side of Carillo’s Explorer.

The impact said Watson, caused moderate to major damage to both vehicles.

A 60-year-old passenger in Castaneda’s vehicle and a 7-year-old passenger in Carrillo’s vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and an ambulance also responded to the scene and Castaneda’s passenger was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Wednesday’s accident was the second this month that involved a driver exiting the Calavo facility, located in the 600 block of West Main Street.
