Maximino “Max” Guillen Torres

Maximino  “Max” Torres died at his home the morning of March 20, 2014 following a brief illness.

Max was born May 4, 1937 in San Antonio Tariacuri, Michoacan, Mexico to Jesus and Aurora Torres. Max came to the U.S. in the late 1950’s as part of the “Bracero” program. Shortly thereafter he met his wife of more than 50 years, Rebecca Guevara, and they started their own family. Soon they welcomed their 3 children, Carlos, Laura and Jesus.

In the late 1960’s, Max was hired at Weyerhaeuser Company. For 30 years, he was a loyal employee of Weyerhaeuser Company until his retirement in 1999.  Max had an extraordinary work ethic and maintained strong old-fashioned values of responsibility and respect. He believed in working hard, respecting ones family members and helping others. He made it a priority to instill these values in his children. Max was also very generous to anyone who needed his help. It was not uncommon for him to welcome family members into his home.

After his retirement, Max concentrated his efforts in building a home in Mexico. It was always his dream to live in Mexico part-time and he accomplished this in the early 2000’s. He and Rebecca also enjoyed traveling to Idaho to visit Max’s brother Elias and his family. The time spent with family was one of his fondest memories.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Aurora Torres, his brother Elias Torres, his son Carlos Torres, and his wife of over 50 years, Rebecca Torres. All of these losses were difficult for Max, but perhaps the most difficult was the loss of his wife, Rebecca. We take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his loved ones. Max is survived by his brother Ruben Torres, his son and daughter in law Jess & Kathy Torres, daughter and son in law Laura & Dennis Frazier; grandchildren Jonathan & Leah Torres, Steven Torres, Jessica Torres, Ryan Frazier, Jason Frazier; and great-grandchildren Moy Pedroza, Andrew Torres and Olivia Torres; and numerous nieces and nephews in California and Idaho. On the weekend before his passing, Max was visited by all of his nieces and nephews from Idaho and this was something that gave him great joy.

A rosary will be recited at 7:00pm, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 N. Oak Street, Santa Paula. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father Charles Lueras, C.R.I.C. officiating. Committal and Interment will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
