The Santa Clara Valley Hospice-Home Support Group 2013 ANNUAL HOME TOUR is offering something special this year!

We have MITCH STONE guiding a tour of the Oaks Neighborhood. This isn’t just a lookie-loo tour of some one else’s home (it is that too) but a walk through one of the most quirky, but beautiful neighborhoods around.

Mitch has lived in Santa Paula for almost a lifetime and moved to the Oaks fifteen years ago. He became intrigued with the unique twist of the roads, the wide variation of styles of the homes, that seemed to have been built in starts and fits. What was the history of this tree shaded, magical neighborhood?

It all started with the Mupu Indians and has a rich history in the development of Ventura County. The names related to the Oaks are household names if you have lived in Santa Paula for very long, such as: architects Roy Wilson and John Stroh, artist Douglas

Shively and ranchers Harrison Crumrine and Nathan Blanchard. Mitch became fascinated with it all! He said it was “Like eating salted peanuts, once you start you can’t stop.” If you like architecture and history, Mitch is the expert in this area. In 2011 he published a book called The Oaks of Santa Paula. Fortunately for Mr. Stone, this is a town that has remained closely knit and families that are descendants of the original founders are still around. There are great stories to be told.

You may know Mitch Stone. He is a historical consultant, Rotarian, and Director of Operations at the Aviation Museum of Santa Paula. He will make the history of this one of a kind community come alive with interesting bits of information. He is very willing to answer questions too! Nobody has more answers!

Please consider your feet and wear comfortable shoes. Tours will be at 10AM and 2PM with Mitch Stone. Starting location to be announced day of tour.
