A Santa Paula man was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of prowling and trying to break into a Ventura home after the female resident was awoken by something outside her bedroom window.

According to Ventura Police, the unidentified women was asleep in her home in the 2600 block of Lexington Drive when at about 3 a.m. a noise outside the window woke her up. The woman looked out the window and saw a male subject using a knife to try to pry the window open. According to the Ventura PD statement, the woman “immediately called the Ventura Police Command Center to report the crime.”

When VPD officers arrived on scene they checked the area and found a subject, 22-year-old-Santa Paula resident Ryan Ramos, only a few blocks from the victim’s residence. Ramos matched the description provided by the victim, and, according to Ventura Police, “Through their investigation officers were able to identify Ramos as the suspect who attempted to pry open the victim’s bedroom window.”

Ramos was later booked at Ventura County Jail for attempted residential burglary and prowling.
