Boys and Girls State representatives named at SPHS

Gabriel Diaz entered the Human Services Academy as a freshman.  In his sophomore year, he took Child Development and Care class were fifteen hours job shadow and service learning St. Sebastian Preschool found him presenting thematic lesson plans.  

This young man is currently interning at McKevett Elementary School with Ms. De La O.  He works with small groups of fifth grade students encouraging them to maximize their potential in the area of math. 

 This year, he was the captain for the SPHS Varsity Basketball Team during the winter sports season.  If that was not enough...he is currently the captain for the S.P.H.S. Varsity Baseball Team.  

He will attend the 75th Session of The American Legion California Boys State at California State University, Sacramento campus.  

The event will be held on June 16-23, 2012 and paid for by the American Legion.  He will be developing leadership skills and learn to appreciate his rights as a citizen in the Santa Paula community.  

Yesenia Nunez has chosen a four-year pathway with the Human Services Academy.  She has volunteered two years for the Halloween Carnival and also participated in Santa Paula Beautiful.  

During her sophomore year, Yesenia got involved with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ventura County and mentored a child at Glen City Elementary School through the ASPIRE program.  

This young lady did Link Crew Training last summer and does an excellent job of meeting with her two frosh “Buddies” twice a week.  

She interned first semester at dentist office of Richard Yamamoto.  This semester, she is at Santa Paula Medical Clinic West learning skills from professionals in the area of health careers.  

She is secretary for Key Club along with being a member of the National Honor Society, California Scholastic Federation, and recently joined the new Ambassador’s Club.  

This athlete has played on the SPHS Girls Soccer team all three years.  

This year, she began volunteering her time at the California Oil Museum to archive artifacts and collection pieces.  Yesenia is the delegate attending California Girls State June 25-July 1, 2012 at Claremont-McKenna College near Los Angeles.  Her fees are paid for by the American Legion Auxiliary.  

She will be joined by girls from all over the state to learn about American government and develop an appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans.
