Take a romantic Valentine’s Day Cruise with the Boys & Girls Club

Now is the time to make plans to treat your honey to an extra special Valentine’s celebration, a unique evening that will include a dash of romantic hi-jinks on the high seas!

On Saturday, February 18, the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley is creating an evening for sweethearts at the Community Center, a celebration special enough to attract Honorary Chair - or should it be Captain? - Gavin MacLeod.

The actor, celebrating his 60th decade in show business, is celebrated for playing Captain Stubing on the long running television series “The Love Boat,” as well as Murray on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

Although the ever-busy MacLeod will be unable to attend the February 18 fundraiser, Santa Paula Police Department Chief Steve MacKinnon said the ever modest MacLeod was “very pleased to be asked” to be the honorary chairman. “He’s sorry he cannot attend, and was very flattered that we thought of him!”

MacKinnon, president of the club board of directors, said, “When we talked about the theme of the evening his name automatically came up. Besides, Mr. MacLeod has always generously supported any cause that involves youth.” Honored in 1992 as Humanitarian of the Year by the Gift of Life Foundation, MacLeod is the spokesman for “Feed the Children” and an honorary citizen of Boy’s Town.

MacLeod, recognized internationally for his work on television and in films, has appeared on and off-Broadway. He currently can be seen in the inspirational movie “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry.” He and his wife Patti (who have seven children and nine grandchildren) appear weekly in “Back on Course,” their Trinity Broadcasting Network series - a five time Religion in Media award winner - just one of many honors afforded the couple and MacLeod.

Since 1986 MacLeod has been corporate spokesman for Princess Cruises, one of the seven leading lines in the world. He travels with them frequently, to the delight of all on board.

And you’ll want to be on board for the February 18 Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley Valentine’s Day celebration that will feature dinner, Silent Auction, Live Auction, musical entertainment and dancing. MacKinnon said the club has ambitious decorating plans for the landlocked venue to be “decked out as a combination of a very romantic look with a little bit of a cruise ship theme.”

Tickets are only $75 each, and guests are asked to dress Upper Deck, not Captain’s Table, formal, but with the panache “you would for that romantic moonlight cruise you’ve always wanted to take.” MacKinnon promises there will be surprises in store for those who attend this evening of stylized romance on the high seas.

Sponsorship opportunities are now open for B&GCSCV “Sweetheart” supporters. Call the club at 805-525-7910 for more information or to make a reservation. Seating is limited!
