The Lady Cardinal soccer team took on St. Margaret’s from San Juan Capistrano Friday and forced the game into double overtime.
The St. Margaret’s Tartans finally took the CIF quarterfinal game 1-0 midway through the second overtime. It was a hard-fought contest from start to finish. The Tartans had a tough defense and even triple-teamed one of Santa Paula’s top scorers, Taylor Alvarado, keeping her from scoring. Alvarado, a freshman is expected to be a leader of the team in the next three years.
Coach Jesus Cordova said his girls played an excellent game. He told them not to put their heads down, because they played well. “They put a lot of pressure on us, but we played very, very well,” Cordova said.
The girls move up to the Tri-Valley league next year and Cordova expects to have another strong squad next season. He said the JV girls are strong and he said they’d be an asset to the varsity.
