Santa Paula received just less than five inches of rain so far this month in a series of storms that was supposed to crest Sunday, but instead decided to move out. A winter storm warning was issued Saturday for an onslaught of overnight rain that threatened to bring mudslides to the Guiberson Fire burn area between Fillmore and Moorpark, but the storm - although bringing periods of heavy rain throughout Saturday evening - moved out, leaving clouds with periods of bright sunshine throughout Sunday.
According to City of Santa Paula Interim Public Works Director Jon Turner, there were no problems in the city stemming from the storms. “It was the usual suspects” areas of the city that normally experience some flooding, but “we brought out our signs, and that’s where we were at.”
Taking a wet beating were the streets: “We have the pothole battle... storm water loosens up existing potholes” and makes them worse. Budget constraints are having an impacted, but Turner said citizens will “see us out there continuing the patching” on streets with the worst pothole offenders.
According to SPWeather.net Santa Paula has had 8.26 inches of rain since the season started, a figure well above average for this time of the year. Although projected to be cooler, with temperatures hitting 67 degrees Wednesday, the air will heat up into the low 70s over the weekend with evening lows in the mid-40s.
