The public is invited to attend “Why The Chimes Rang” which will be presented at the First Christian Church of Santa Paula, Sunday, December 13th, at 2 pm. The performance is free. A Love Offering will be taken to benefit the restoration of the church.

This celebration of Christmas will be presented in the custom of the Victorian Era, with participants dressed in clothing from the 1860s to the 1900s.

The story was written in 1915 as a one-act play and a book by Raymond MacDonald Alden. It will be presented as the story is read by Dr. Philip McKinley, church pastor.  Over twenty re-enactors, dressed in fashions of the Victorian era (the time the church was built) will give the performance. The King himself will give his crown to the Christ child. The Queen will be dressed in an exquisite, gold crushed-velvet aesthetic dress, unique to the era.

The performance will include a live Nativity. It’s also rumored that angels will appear.

Mick and Holley Gene Leffler will share their piano and organ music as a backdrop to this Christmas pantomime. Holley Gene is also the costumer who made all the Victorian clothing
(see www.HolleyGene.com).

Rev. Dr. McKinley will give a Christmas Blessing. The program will end with the singing of “Silent Night” in a special candle lighting setting. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Come see how Christmas was celebrated during Victorian times.
