A Santa Paula woman who allegedly overdosed on alcohol and two drugs and then battered and threatened Santa Paula Hospital Emergency Room nurses - then later attempted to kick out the windows of a patrol car - was arrested last week.

According to Santa Paula Police Lieutenant Troyce Reynolds, the incident occurred Saturday, November 7 at 6:10 p.m. when the SPPD received a report of a female running in front of vehicles at the corner of 12th and Main streets. When SPPD officers responded they found 30-year-old Monique Hernandez of Santa Paula, who was unconscious on the sidewalk.

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and American Medical Response Paramedics were summoned to the scene and worked on Hernandez, who had stopped breathing. Hernandez was transported by ambulance to Santa Paula Hospital, where she was revived. Reportedly, Hernandez had taken Ecstasy and heroin and had a blood alcohol level of .30 percent.

At about 8:15 p.m. the SPPD was notified that Hernandez had battered and threatened Emergency Room nurses before she left the hospital. When SPPD Officers Kim Hemminger and Damien Shilo responded they found Hernandez in front of the hospital and attempted to arrest her.

Hernandez allegedly resisted arrest and was spitting on the officers, who finally got her into the patrol car where she attempted to kick out a window. Hernandez was restrained and taken immediately to Ventura County Jail, where she was booked on suspicion of various charges including resisting arrest.

Reynolds said there were “no noted injuries to the officers or nurses” stemming from Hernandez’s actions.
