Vice President: Katie Gialketsis
Why hello! My name is Kathryn Gialketsis, or just Katie for short, and I am the Santa Paula Chapter Vice-President. This is my third and final year in the Agriculture Science Academy since I am a Senior. I love Santa Paula High School and am involved in just about everything, including ASB, volleyball, soccer, track, National Honors Society, and about five other clubs on campus. I truly enjoy working with others and getting people involved. It is always my pleasure to make others happy and successful. I am one of those people that may not be very loud, but I work hard to lead by example. I am not afraid to color outside of the lines and would love to help you become successful in whatever you like. Get ready for a fun filled year!
Secretary: Daniella Oliva
Hi! My name is Daniella Oliva, I am your Chapter Secretary. This is my third year in the Agriculture Science Academy and it has changed my life for the better. I have really enjoyed competing on the Vegetable Judging Team this past year & travel throughout the State to the different competitions. This year, our vegetable judging team has high expectations and we hope to do well at the State competition. I have also raised lambs for the last two years, which has taught me to be responsible and learn about animal agriculture. I look forward to helping you get involved and develop your leadership skills.
Treasurer: Talon Smith
Hi, I’m Talon Smilth. I am a Junior at SPHS and this is my second year in FFA. Last year, I found my niche as a participant in the vegetable judging team. It has been a great experience, and I hope to excel in it this year as well as in other competitions. Along with activities in FFA, I also love busting heads out on the football field as an offensive lineman. Playing my guitar and piano are also some hobbies I enjoy spending my time doing. I hope the FFA becomes one of your passions in your life as it is in mine. Have fun this year!
Reporter: Juliet Wilson
Hey! My name is Juliet Wilson, and this is my third year in the Agriculture Science Academy; I’m proud to call myself your 2009-2010 Chapter Reporter. Outside of the FFA, I’m very involved in academics & band, and the commitment I learned through the agriculture program has definitely helped me in other areas of my life. Vegetable judging is what I do: the contests are intense, but I love participating in them. You’ll generally find me with a camera in hand at any FFA activity, so be on the lookout. Get ready for a great year, Santa Paula!
Sentinel: Becky Smith
Hello there! My name is Becky Smith and I am proudly serving as your 2009-2010 Sentinel! This is my fourth year in FFA, and I have loved every minute of it. Through FFA I have learned leadership, determination and confidence. Being your Sentinel this year, I feel as if it is my duty to teach the members these strengths. This year I promise to keep you all entertained, excited about FFA, and to have the best year yet!
Advisor: Mr. Alex Flores
I have one of the best jobs in the world because I try to make a difference in my student’s lives just as my teacher’s did while I was in school. School never came easy for me - actually I hated school but what kept me in it was my high school agriculture program, sports, and my family. Though my family isn’t an agricultural family nor do I own thousands of acres of cattle or avocados - I started my agriculture career in high school. I raised chickens, lambs and steers, for my projects, which helped fuel my love for livestock production and agriculture. I graduated from Buena Park High School located in Orange County and attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree, Teaching Credential and Master’s Degree from Cal Poly (not bad for someone who hated school). Don’t get me wrong, I went through the most challenging times while going through college but look at me now...... I have the choice to do what I love and get paid for it! I will be completing my 10th year as a high school agriculture teacher and my 7th year at Santa Paula. Now if this isn’t success, I don’t know what is. I challenge you to work hard, take risks, and get involved - it’s the only way you’ll make it!
