Marcelle M. Clark Marcelle M. Clark, age 89, of Santa Paula, died Saturday, December 30, 2000 in Santa Paula following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Clark was born March 20, 1911 in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was a 15 year county resident coming from Bishop, where she had lived for 35 years.Marcelle was retired from the State of California Department of Human Resources. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Paula.She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Spracklen; three grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Mary Spracklen of Fresno, Karen and Peter Croft of Huntington Beach, and Kristin and Stephen Sistler of Templeton; and eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew and Kaci Spracklen, Timothy, Jonathan and Katherine Croft, and Matthew and Michele Sistler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gordon, in 1994, and her son-in-law, Guy Spracklen in 1995.Chapel services were held January 2 at Pierce Brothers Stetler, Santa Paula, with the Reverend Charles Laird of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial followed at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Amancio VenegasAmancio Venegas, age 71, of Santa Paula, passed away December 31, 2000, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 8, 1929 in Martindale, Texas, and was a county resident for 48 years, coming from Corcoran, California. Mr. Venegas was employed as a truck driver, working for Briggs and Santa Paula Lemon for 25 years.He is survived by his beloved wife, Alexandria Venegas; six children, Elvira Venegas, Rosemary Garcia, Connie Venegas, Amancio Venegas Jr., Irene (Chata) Martinez and Sandra Castillo; three brothers, Eddie Venegas, Fidencio Venegas and Filimon Venegas; three sisters-in-law; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.Amancio’s journey home to his Creator began with his acceptance of Christ in October 2000 at Love International and his baptism in Fillmore on December 3, 2000. His legacy continues with his surviving family, rest in peace Papa.
Mass will be held Friday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula, Juan Carlos Garcia officiating. Burial will be at Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula.Larry Ross SteelsmithLarry Ross “Tiny” Steelsmith, age 61, died Tuesday, December 26, 2000 in Grove, Oklahoma. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois on May 1, 1939 to Forrest and Laura Jean Ross Steelsmith.Mr. Steelsmith was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Carolyn Green on November 6, 1971 in Reno, Nevada. He worked as a backhoe operator for 37 years, most recently for Pacific Construction and Maintenance in Santa Paula. He was a member of the FFA Alumni of Santa Paula, and an avid camper.Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; three sons, Larry Glen Davis of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Tommy Wayne Davis of Fillmore, and Mitchell Powell Davis of Van Buren, Arkansas; two daughters, Terri Steelsmith of California and Pattie Wigginton of Wyandotte, OK; and 15 grandchildren.Services were held December 30 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home in Grove, OK, with the Rev. Aaron Weibel officiating. Burial was in Council House Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.
