From cattle barons and cowpokes to pioneer women and saloon gals, all “fun-slingers” are invited to claim a stake in a unique fundraiser when the nonprofit Santa Clara Valley Hospice/Home Support Group opens the doors to the Old West on Saturday, June 20.

The 3rd Annual Western Casino Night to benefit the River Valley Adult Day Program will be held at the historic Glen Tavern Inn (134 N. Mill St., Santa Paula) from 5 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are only $65 per person in advance, $75 at the door ($40 of the ticket price is tax deductible) ... and remember, there’s always a last minute “stampede” by those who don’t want to miss out on this fun event.

Cocktails will start the evening featuring Western-style hot hors d’oeuvres while guests enjoy a courtesy glass of wine, beer or soda - but no sarsaparilla - followed by a gourmet Chuck Wagon dinner, all accompanied by musical entertainment on the wide-open spaces outside the Inn.

Also included in the ticket is $50 play money. Selected gambling tables will start the action at 5:30 p.m., with all tables opening to welcome gamblers 15 minutes later.

Games of chance - from Texas Hold’em Poker and Black Jack to Craps, Roulette and the Wheel of Fortune - will be overseen by celebrity dealers who vow to separate guests from their play cash at casinos located at the Glen Tavern Inn, including the “South 40” Annex.

Western Casino Night will also feature a Silent Auction and Raffle offering something to please every cowpoke and Prairie Princess from real life gambling destination trips to an end of evening Live Auction of a mountain hideaway fishing getaway that includes all equipment and lessons from a pro angler!

The 3-day, 2-night August trip for two persons includes all meals as well as lodging and fishing on Panquitch Lake, Utah. Transportation is not included.

All the Western fun is to benefit The River Valley Club, now approaching its third anniversary, which offers activities to seniors with special needs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those enjoying The River Valley Club - operated by SCVHHSG - enjoy hearing and discussing current events, indulge in artistic pastimes, receive visits from a therapy dog, do crafts, enjoy light physical activity and take part in numerous other planned activities.

In addition, The River Valley Club serves nutritious and delicious hot meals and snacks while enjoying the attention of the staff that especially enjoy working with special need seniors.

So corral your energy, polish those boots, press the Levi’s and get ready to kick up your heels in support of The River Valley Club at this rootin’ tootin’ and Western casual cabaret.

All Cowboy Joes and Calamity Janes will have a bronco-busting time at the 3rd Annual Western Casino Night. Make sure you don’t miss this Gold Nugget party, where you can dress Western from your finest Stetson down to those spurs that jingle jangle jingle!

Tickets are available in Santa Paula at John Nichols Gallery (916 E. Main St.), the Santa Paula Times (944 E. Main St.) and Glen Tavern Inn (134 N. Mill St.)

Call 525-1333 for more information or to make reservations. Or order tickets by mail: send a check for tickets ($65 each in advance) made out to SCVHHSG and mail to P.O. Box 365, Santa Paula, CA 93061.

When ordering by mail, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.
