After the pruning demonstration, at t 11 a.m., there will be a Biennial Auction of rare and hard to find roses. Many of the 100 roses offered for auction are especially suited for Ventura County and not available locally. Some of the roses are out of commerce, such as “Graceland,” or new roses not yet in commerce, such as “Malicome.” There will also be a fixed-price section of more popular roses.Paul Barden, a noted hybridizer, has provided VCRS with the naming rights to a sister seedling of “Jeri Jennings,” a rose noted for its vigor and Hybrid Musk character. The seedling is pink, fragrant and is continuous blooming. The bidding starts at $250 for the right to name this Hybrid Musk rose. For further information, call Kathy Ayers at 498-0861.
