Santa Paula Christmas Tree Farm will host the annual meeting, trade show and tree competition of the California Christmas Tree Association on Saturday, September 20.

Santa Paula Christmas Tree Farm will host the annual meeting, trade show and tree competition of the California Christmas Tree Association on Saturday, September 20. The public is invited to vote in the competition event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the tree farm located at 18540 E. Telegraph (Hwy 126), just east of the entrance to the Santa Paula Freeway. The grand prize winner has the option of donating a tree to the Governor.

The annual meeting opens with a member’s reception Friday evening at the historic Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula, and draws growers and retailers from the four corners of California. Special topics of interest to be presented by speakers this year include water quality, treatment and management; integrated pest management; marketing; and seasonal labor management. The meeting closes with a Sunday morning breakfast and tour of another tree farm, Nancy’s Ranch on Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia.

Santa Paula Christmas Tree Farm has been supplying trees to area residents since 1968. In addition to the meeting and competition held at the farm, wholesale suppliers to the tree industry will set up displays and be available for consultation.

A “Tree Fresh” certificate, intended to show tree buyers the retailer is certified by the Association in handling trees for maximum freshness, can be earned by members taking instruction in the afternoon. Proceeds from a silent auction of donated items will go to benefit research in the Christmas tree industry, and a working trebuchet (catapult) built by a member will be on display.

For further information, or to donate items to the auction, contact the California Christmas Tree Association at 800-454-TREE or CaChristmas.com.
