Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes are scheduled to start again in Santa Paula on Tuesday September 23rd in English and on Thursday September 25th in Spanish.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes are scheduled to start again in Santa Paula on Tuesday September 23rd in English and on Thursday September 25th in Spanish. The classes are being held in the Limoneira Pavilion at 55 S. Hallock Rd.Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) is one part of the Citizen Corps. CERT is a 20-hour course that is taught in seven classes providing training in emergency preparedness and basic response techniques to the public. The classes cover Earthquake Preparedness, Small Fire Suppression, Basic Disaster Medical, Basic Search and Rescue and Emergency Response Management and Organization. The training enables citizens to take a more active role in personal and public safety. CERT is a national program that is standardized in its training. The CERT program is an important part of our national preparedness and Homeland Security and is supported by FEMA and by the California Governor’s Office on Service and VolunteerismThe training will be held each Tuesday in English and Thursday in Spanish from 7:00 to 9:30 PM for seven weeks. The dates for the English CERT classes are September 23rd and 30th, October 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th and the final class and drill on November 4, 2008. The dates for the Spanish CERT classes are September 25th, October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th and the final class and drill on November 6th, 2008Call Santa Paula’s Emergency Preparedness office at 805-933-4297 and leave a message with your contact information to sign up for the classes or send information via email to slazenby@ci.santa-paula.ca.us.

The Camarillo and Oak View classes will follow the same training schedule making it easy for students to make up any classes that must be missed during the training here in Santa Paula. The classes are held in Oak View at the Oak View Park and Resource Center, 555 Mahoney and at the Ventura County Regional Fire Training Center at the Camarillo Airport.CERT training will help you be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
