Santa Paula Hospital walls now have art work
July 02, 2008
Santa Paula News
Members of Santa Paula Society of the Arts have colored the world of recovering patients at Santa Paula Hospital with 67 beautiful paintings – landscapes, local scenes and exotic places – decorating the previously blank hospital walls and corridors. Original pastels, oils, acrylics and watercolors now adorn the spaces that were left empty after the closure of Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.
When the old Hospital on the Hill closed, the valuable paintings belonging to the Santa Paula collection were removed and put into storage by the City until renovation could be completed. But after the hospital reopened, hospital personnel who were used to enjoying this fine art asked the Society of the Arts if they could provide work of local artists to decorate the hospital halls and possibly be available for sale.Art has often been credited, along with music, laughter and human contact, with a capacity to heal. Now the hospital walls hold scenes that perhaps for a while can take the mind away from pain and suffering, into a world of beauty and peace.
