Two individuals and one local company will receive special recognition for their outstanding community service and for upholding the legacy of the three individuals who founded United Way of Ventura County in 1945 - Milton M. Teague, Roy Pinkerton, and Douglas Shively - during United Way of Ventura County’s third annual “Spirit of Community Impact” awards event scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at California State University, Channel Islands in Camarillo.
Two individuals and one local company will receive special recognition for their outstanding community service and for upholding the legacy of the three individuals who founded United Way of Ventura County in 1945 - Milton M. Teague, Roy Pinkerton, and Douglas Shively - during United Way of Ventura County’s third annual “Spirit of Community Impact” awards event scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at California State University, Channel Islands in Camarillo.• Leanne Neilson, Associate Provost for California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, is the recipient of this year’s Milton M. Teague Award, in recognition of her outstanding overall support of the United Way. Ms. Neilson has been a United Way board member since November 2004. She is Chair-Elect of the United Way Board for 2007/2008 and will become Chair of the Board on July 1 for 2008/2009. Ms. Neilson is Vice Chair of the Administration Committee and is a founding member of the United Women’s Leadership Council.• Claudia Harrison, Executive Director of First 5 Ventura County, is the recipient of this year’s Douglas Shively Award, presented annually to the individual who has provided the highest level of volunteer support to United Way. Ms. Harrison served as Chair of United Way’s Self-Sufficiency Focus Team and is a member of the Community Impact Council. Ms. Harrison has shared her expertise in assessing community needs and program evaluation with the Self-Sufficiency Focus Team as they progressed through their intense planning year. Ms. Harrison has also championed the partnership between First 5 Ventura County and United Way to bring the Born Learning program to families in Ventura County.• Enterprise rent-a-car is the recipient of this year’s Roy Pinkerton Award, presented annually to the top United Way corporate supporter. Enterprise rent-a-car is a leader in demonstrating best practices annually with its local employee campaigns and other fundraising activities such as their popular “Casino Night” event, their involvement in United Way’s annual Day of Caring event, and through sponsorship of United Way events. United Way is also proud to recognize Enterprise rent-a-car’s strong corporate financial support provided by their 44 Leadership Givers who each donated $1,000 or more to the United Way fundraising campaign.
