JV Softball loses to Rio Mesa 15-3

On Wednesday, April 23, the Santa Paula High School JV softball team traveled to Rio Mesa. Playing in difficult weather conditions, the Lady Cards lost to Rio Mesa 15-3. The Cards committed seven errors, and “misplayed several windblown fly balls,” according to Coach Sam Cathcart. But “They did manage a 3-run third inning.” Diana Ochoa, Alexis Hernandez and Raeleen Hernandez each had hits. Rio Mesa scored 3 in the first inning, 9 in the second, and 3 in the fourth.“It was a game that should have been much closer,” noted Cathcart, “but hopefully the team learned from its mistakes and will move on. They are great girls, and we will stand behind them and support them as much as possible.”
