JV Softball defeats Grace Brethren 26-11

Sports
Published:  April 25, 2008

On Tuesday, April 22, the JV softball team visited Grace Brethren from Simi Valley. The Lady Cards came away with a 26-11 victory.

“It was a very difficult game for Santa Paula to play,” noted Coach Sam Cathcart. The Grace Brethren pitcher walked 26 batters and hit three others; the Cards only had six hits.

“The pitcher was so wild, we really could not get many quality swings,” Cathcart said. The game was called after two hours.

Grace Brethren scored the majority of their runs in the third inning. Cathcart noted, “That was a very bad inning for us. We had a 17-run lead and lost our concentration… we committed five errors and were very sloppy in that inning.”

Kassie Espinoza led Santa Paula in hitting, with three hits and five RBIs. Alexis Hernandez, Angie Vasquez and Vero Limon also had RBI singles.

Raeleen Hernandez pitched “two solid innings,” giving up only one hit and one unearned run. She also had three strikeouts.

The Lady Cards improved to 7-5 overall, and remain 2-1 in League play. They have five games remaining on their schedule.
