Grammy-nominated recording group Emerson Drive, whose hit “Moments” topped the country charts in 2007, will headline the Community Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s 18th annual Gold Dust Gala on Saturday, May 10, at Ventura’s Seaside Park.

Tickets are $95, and can be purchased online at www.golddustgala.com, or by calling 667-2881.

Proceeds from the benefit event go toward early breast cancer detection and intervention by providing free mammograms and surgical procedures for women in the community who cannot afford these life-saving exams and treatments.

To date, this program has assisted 184 women, and provided 222 procedures, which include mammograms, biopsies, and surgical intervention, when needed.

The Gold Dust Gala begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails, a silent auction and western line dancing. A barbecue dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m., with Emerson Drive taking the stage at 8:30 p.m.

The silent auction will feature dinners at fine restaurants, theater tickets, gems, western clothes, boots and autographed items from top country artists. Also up for grab and returning this year is “Digging for Diamonds,” where one lucky person will win a diamond pendant donated by Van Gundy & Sons Jewelers.

Emerson Drive has been together since 1995 but is coming off a breakthrough year in 2007 with the release of the band’s fifth album “Countrified.” Its first single, “A Good Man,” reached the American Top 20, while its second single, “Moments,” gave the group its first No. 1 single on the American country music charts. A third single, “You Still Own Me,” also made it to the Top 20.

“Moments” earned Emerson Drive a 2008 Grammy nomination for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The band also was nominated for a 2007 Country Music Association award for “Moments,” and the song’s video also was nominated for a 2007 CMA award.
