There’ll be no fire, but plenty of firefighters when the Santa Paula Fire Fighters Association (SPFFA) stages its first ever Poker Tournament, to be held October 26 at Logsdon’s Restaurant at the Airport. All proceeds of the poker-playing event, which requires a $50 buy-in, will benefit the association and the community projects and programs it supports, according to Santa Paula Fire Department Captain Dan Campos of the SPFFA.

The Poker Tournament will start at 6 p.m. in Logsdon’s Banquet Room, which offers a fine view of the airport. “We’re hoping to get at least 70 people to play,” said Campos, and the event is open to all that like to play poker.

“Anyone can just come that night, pay their $50 and buy-in... there will be various prizes” offered to those with sharp poker skills. Drinks and food will be available for purchase from Logsdon’s menu.

Campos said that the event was planned to “boost our funds that we share with the community and use for SPFFA programs.” One recent donation was to the Ventura County Fallen Firefighters Memorial, to be located at the County Government Center.

The SPFFA is a non-profit that “has been around awhile, and we’re trying to get back into the swing of things” by staging fundraisers, including a recent tri-tip barbecue held at South 10th Street’s Station 1 in conjunction with a Cruise Nite. For more information, call SPFD Captain Gil Segovia, the SPFFA president, at 797-5863.
