By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesA mother and son on felony probation for the sales of narcotics were arrested Wednesday after neighborhood residents reported that they suspected drug dealing was going on in the home the family had recently moved into, according to a Santa Paula Police spokesman.Detective Alan Macias said that the arrests occurred on October 10 at about 10:50 a.m. after the SPPD Investigative Unit conducted a probation search at 204 “D” Bradley St.Taken into custody were Angela Angulo, 47 and her son, Sergio Angulo.Angela Angulo was found to be in possession of about 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine packaged for sales with a street value of about $500.“Additionally, a significant quantity of drug paraphernalia used in the sales of narcotics was discovered,” in the woman’s bedroom said Det. Macias. The methamphetamine was packaged in “small amounts, grams I believe it was,” said Sgt. Ish Cordero.A gram of methamphetamine, considered to be one of the most dangerous drugs for its high addiction rate and negative affects on users who can become paranoid and violent, has a street value of about $100.“...it depends on the quality and who’s selling it,” said Sgt. Cordero. “It’s like the stock market: if there’s a great demand the price goes up and if there is no demand the price goes down.”Angela Angulo and Sergio Angulo were transported to the Santa Paula Police Station. Angela Angulo was subsequently transported to Ventura County Jail. Sergio Angulo was cited and released pending a court appearance.
When the SPPD first started receiving information of suspected narcotic sales they found that police already knew the suspects said Sgt. Cordero.“We knew who they were because of their previous arrests,” in October 2006 when the SPPD Investigative Unit served a narcotics search warrant on the Angulo’s then residence. Both were arrested for narcotics related offenses, convicted of the charges and served time in custody before being released and placed on felony probation.“...then they came out of custody and went back to the same thing,” noted Sgt. Cordero. The latest investigation took just a week or so after neighborhood residents reported that members of the household - who had just moved into the neighborhood about a week prior - seemed to be engaged in illegal activity.“Some investigations are easier than others while others take some time...since these people were on probation is was easier to conduct the search,” rather than conducting a lengthy investigation to order to show probable cause to obtain a warrant, said Sgt. Cordero.“We’re doing the best we can with what we’ve got and so far we’ve been pretty successful with our investigations.”Community input is a great tool for the SPPD and “we want to encourage the public to continue to contact us...”Anyone who suspects or has information on criminal activity should call the SPPD at 525-4474 Ext. 2 or the SPPD recorded Tip Hotline at 933-4253-1-#. Callers can remain anonymous.Or call the Ventura County Crime Stoppers anonymous hotline at 524-0907.
