By Peggy Kelly Santa Paula TimesA Highway 126 accident left three Fillmore residents dead - including a 5-year-old child - in an accident that recalls that the stretch of freeway has long been known as Blood Alley, after a collision on Friday just east of Sycamore Road. According to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Officer Shawna Davidson, the accident occurred on July 20 at approximately 3:31 p.m.Maria Oseguera, a 26-year-old Fillmore resident, was driving a Pontiac Grand Am in the westbound right lane when her vehicle collided with a Peterbilt dump truck - driven by Jose Ambrosio Jr. 22, of Oxnard - traveling in the westbound left lane. Oseguera’s Pontiac spun out of control and crossed into the eastbound lane directly in the path of a Nissan Sentra driven by David Rendon, 20, of Palmdale. When the Pontiac and Nissan collided head-on, two passengers in the rear of Oseguera’s vehicle were ejected into the eastbound lanes. Roberto Garcia Luviano, 34, and Sandra Mirella Castillo, 31, both residents of Fillmore, were killed upon impact and pronounced dead on scene. The two were not wearing seatbelts, said Officer Davidson.Five-year-old Maria Elizabeth Oseguera, the driver’s daughter who had also been riding in the rear of the Pontiac, was transported via helicopter to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, “where she succumbed to her injuries,” said Officer Davidson. Rendon and his passenger, Eduardo Castro Renteria, 22, of Palmdale, were hospitalized with major to minor injuries. Oseguera and another passenger were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries. Ambrosio was not injured.
The collision closed both eastbound lanes, where traffic was halted until about 5 p.m., when traffic was alternated on the westbound side. Traffic remained backed up until about 7:15 p.m., when all the debris was cleared from the highway and the CHP had concluded their on scene investigation. The circumstances that led to the accident have not yet been determined, said Officer Davidson. “Our Special Investigations Team is investigating,” a process that could take weeks or longer. The truck tractor is registered in Oxnard, but “the dump truck trailer itself” is registered to Ventura Crane, Inc., Officer Davidson noted.
