Make getting prepared for emergencies a New Year's Resolution. Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) will begin classes at the Santa Paula Train Depot Thursday, January 12 at 7:00 pm. There are eight classes that last two hours each. The topics covered include an Introduction and Earthquake Awareness, Disaster Fire Suppression Techniques, two sessions of Disaster Medical Operations and preparing for Multi-Casualty Incidents, Light Search and Rescue Techniques and Operations, Team Organization and Management and a Course Review and Disaster Simulation. The CERT system developed from the need for a well-trained community emergency work force. CERT is part of the National Homeland Security. The training program provides course graduates with self-sufficiency through the development of a wide range of skills. The graduates will be able to form into teams that will assist during emergencies and disasters by using their skills in their home, neighborhood, the City of Santa Paula and throughout the Santa Clara Valley. The skills learned will be a life long asset.
