Credit cards stolen turn up in Ventura store

Santa Paula Police received an early morning call Saturday that a residential burglary had occurred during the night and the suspect or suspects didn’t waste any time in trying to use credit cards stolen from the house, according to a SPPD spokesman.

Gary Marshall said the burglary was reported Sept. 25 at 5:30 a.m. when residents of a home on Loma Vista Place awoke to find that they had been robbed.“They noticed the robbery as soon as they woke up,” and contacted the SPPD, said Sgt. Marshall.It is believed that the thief cut open a window screen, reached inside and snatched the credit cards from a bowl located near the window.The credit cards shortly showed up in Ventura where the victims subsequently learned that the suspects had used the cards at several locations.The manager of one retail outlet became suspicious during transactions by a woman and a man who purchased numerous items using the credit cards.
After the first transaction failed a second card was offered to complete the purchase, said Sgt. Marshall.“The manager followed the couple out of the store and got the license number of the vehicle they were driving,” away in.The store manager also made sure that the in-store security video that showed the purchase transactions was saved for law enforcement screening.Santa Paula and Ventura police cooperating in the investigation.With the information received from the store manager including the license number of the suspects’ vehicle as well as the video of the purchase transaction, “In all likelihood we’ll be making an arrest before too long,” said Sgt.
