Per capita incomes of Santa Paulans show gain in 2000 Census

Income was the focus of the latest release of the U.S. Census, which showed that although Santa Paulans had a good bump in per capita income the area still ranks among the lowest in such earnings.

In 2000, the per capita income of city residents rose to $15,736.Fillmore has the lowest 2000 per capita income of $15,010, although the amount also increased from the 1990s $13,481, again a figure adjusted for inflation.Oxnard, Ventura County’s largest city, gained only $11 in the 10-year period for per capita income, from the 1990s adjusted for inflation $15,277 to 2000s figure of $15,288.
Elsewhere in the county, Thousand Oaks had the highest per capita income of $34,314 in 2000 compared to the $29,910 in inflation adjusted income in 1990.Coming in second is Oak Park with a per capita income of $33,905 reported in the 2000 census; the 1990 census showed that Oak Park had a per capita income adjusted for inflation of $27,346.Camarillo had a 1990 per capita income adjusted for inflation of $25,171, compared to the 2000 per capita figure of $28,635.Moorpark has a 2000 per capita income of $25,383; in 1990, the figure, adjusted for inflation, was $24,228.Simi Valley’s per capita income for 2000 was $26,586, compared to the inflation-adjusted 1990 per capita income of $23,529.
