A Santa Paula man who was convicted of molesting the daughter of a longtime family friend was sentenced last week to 55 years to life in prison for his sex crimes against the 12-year-old girl. The multiple convictions mean Alfonso Gonzalez would not be eligible for parole until 3036.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison, Gonzalez, 61, was arrested June 27, 2013, in connection with lewd acts on a child under 14. Gonzales had previously been convicted of sex offenses in 1995, and was registered as a sex offender in the Megan’s Law database when more recent incidents occurred.

After a three-day trial, “It took the jury two days to find Gonzalez guilty of three counts of lewd acts on a child, one count of oral copulation on a child under 14 years old, and 16 special allegations including that Gonzalez is a habitual sex offender,” said Madison.

Due to the multiple convictions, “Gonzalez,” noted Madison, “will not be eligible to be considered for parole until the age of 111 years old.”

Madison said the Santa Paula Police worked closely with the District Attorney’s Office, and, “Once again the SPPD would like to thank the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this case.”
