Consuelo Rico Castaneda

It’s with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our  beautiful mother, Consuelo Rico Castaneda.  he died peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren in the early morning of November 19, 2016.

Consuelo, was born on December 5, 1931 and was a lifelong resident of Santa Paula.  She was known to her friends and family as “Connie” or “Chelo”.  Consuelo spoke fondly of her youth and thoroughly enjoyed her hometown when it was just a sleepy little community known for its citrus and quiet feel.  Consuelo was a proud homemaker and mother who did her best to raise 12 children and when necessary, helped raise some of her grandchildren.  She instilled hard work in her kids by example and would always say to treat others with kindness and generosity.  This was evident many times when family and friends would come by and could count on being offered some of the best Mexican cuisine anyone ever had.

Consuelo was preceded in death by her first husband Daniel Nava.  She leaves behind her husband Cruz Castaneda and her children Gloria Nava, Danny Nava, Arlene Castaneda, Lorraine Rodriguez (Larry), Ronnie Castaneda (Debbie), Robert Castaneda (Martha), Randy Castaneda (Sylvia), Melinda Segura (Rick), Leonard Castaneda, Charlene Castaneda (Jessie), Jeannie Velasquez (David) and Raylene Castaneda.  She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Consuelo now joins her sisters, Dora, Ernestine, Eva and brother Rudy in Heaven... The family is once again complete.

Mom, thank you for all that you did for us. We never suffered greatly because you were very protective and chose to do for others before you thought of yourself.  We pray that you will always protect us while you watch over from Above. We take great comfort knowing Jesus will keep you warm and safe now. Rest peacefully and eternally; no one deserves it more than you.  We love and will always miss you.

Consuelo’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Santa Paula Hospital, and her caregivers Cynthia, Tanya and Shady for their kindness and respect while treating her.

A rosary will be recited on Monday, November 28 at Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula at 7 p.m. and a Mass will be celebrated at the same location on Tuesday, November 29 at 10 a.m., with the burial immediately following at the Santa Paula Cemetery.
