Antonio Magana: Bail doubled, new arraignment
set for teen accused of murder
Published:  August 22, 2014

Monday’s arraignment was postponed for the Santa Paula teenager accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend in an area park, but his bail was increased to $1 million.

Antonio Magana, 18, was in court August 18 to face a single count of homicide in the death of 21-year-old Ashley Moran, whose beaten and stabbed body was found early on the morning of March 15 at Obergon Park. Moran’s body was on a slope and partially concealed by brush when a passerby discovered it.

Moran was in the early stages of pregnancy at the time of her death.

After an extensive investigation by Santa Paula Police Detectives that also involved the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Magana - a documented gang associate - was arrested August 14 in the 300 block of South Palm Avenue.

The Ventura County Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Magana and his arraignment was rescheduled for September 8, 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 13.

Magana’s bail was doubled to $1 million; he remains in Ventura County Jail.
