A domestic abuse call early Friday morning turned into an arrest for stolen property when a Santa Paula man was stopped and found with a sawed-off shotgun.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Scott Varner, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. May 30 when officers responded to the area of the 300 block of Larmon Loop, located off Santa Ana Street west of South Palm Avenue.

Varner said, “When officers arrived, they located a male subject,” 21-year-old Daniel Garcia, of Santa Paula, inside of a vehicle in the area.

Officers found Garcia was on probation and detained him, “believing that he was the subject involved in the reported domestic dispute,” but said Varner, “The other half of the domestic dispute could not be located after an extensive check of the area was conducted.”

While officers were checking the vehicle Garcia was seen sitting in, they found a shotgun that officers discovered had been reported stolen earlier in the SPPD duty shift.

Garcia, described by Varner as a “known gang associate,” was also found to be in possession of several controlled substances.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance with a firearm.

The stolen firearm said Varner, was returned to the owner. The other party involved in the initial domestic abuse call was not located.

Garcia was transported to Ventura County Jail.
